Age: 51.

Business & location: Gordon’s Tuxedos and Suits, Dubuque.

Founded: 1952.

Female you look up to: Bethany Frankel.

What inspired you to launch your business: The business was presented to me by the former owner (Dina Kempthorne) in February 2021, and I saw the opportunity to continue with this longstanding Dubuque business.

Biggest thing you’ve learned or best advice you’ve received as a business owner: Network in your industry, and learn from people who have been in your shoes. I have learned so much from other experienced owners and operators that have helped me improve and grow my business. It’s important to have people to bounce ideas off of, and a lot of times, they are very happy to help.

Your advice for other female entrepreneurs: Make a pact to yourself to always follow your instincts and to listen to the higher powers. This means taking lots of pauses and time outs with prayer or meditation to keep yourself in check. Being the leader and face of a business can be challenging and comes with a special responsibility of service to your customers and community.
