The definition of an overachiever is someone who goes above and beyond their daily responsibilities to make a positive impact on the world.
Celebrated actor, author and humanitarian Priyanka Chopra Jonas is a true overachiever. As the new G2 Overachievers spokesperson, she is sharing tips for discovering the overachiever in all of us and how to pass that on to our children.
Think bigger: Look for simple ways to maximize the impact of your everyday activities. When donating to charity, investigate matching programs to make your dollar go further. Planning to volunteer at a food pantry? First, talk to staff to determine what days of the week you’re needed most. Picking up groceries for dinner? Ask an elderly neighbor what he or she needs from the store. With a little planning, seemingly small tasks can have a big impact.
Lead by example: For Priyanka, the goal is to “inspire the next generation of children to be more kind and more compassionate.” For the past several years, Pilot Pen has recognized exceptionally inspiring individuals through the annual G2 Overachievers Grant, which is designed to enhance the reach of unique and impactful individuals and their projects.
Previous honorees include Jacqueline Norvell, a full-time legal secretary, single mother and founder of Brown Bag Lady, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit dedicated to providing meals, resources and compassion to the city’s homeless. Previous Student Grant winner, Erin Manuel, has raised over $16,000 since the age of 7, selling hand-crafted bookmarks, sculptures and other crafts in order to provide aid for health, education and food programs in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake.
This year, Priyanka has joined Pilot Pen to help select and award the G2 Overachievers $100,000 grant — double the amount of last year’s grant — to someone who goes above and beyond her 9-to-5 role to make the world a better place. She will also help select and award the winners of the 2018 $50,000 G2 Overachievers Grant and $15,000 G2 Overachievers Student Grant.
Have the right tools: What are your goals? What issues matter most to you? Overachievers know it’s helpful to jot down thoughts, ideas and solutions. As Priyanka says: “I have to have a pen in my hand when I think.” The written word is powerful and capturing ideas as they arise makes them more tangible — just be prepared for them to strike at any time and have great tools on hand, like Priyanka’s favorite, the Pilot G2 gel ink pen.
Whether writing down goals or creating a business plan, G2 is America’s number one selling pen and a preferred pen of overachievers everywhere.
Recognize unsung heroes: You might know overachievers from your job, school or neighborhood, making positive changes, big and small. Make sure they know their work matters.
“So much of philanthropy is a thankless job,” Priyanka shares. “Most people who do it don’t expect much back.”
Celebrate these good works and encourage an overachiever’s mission by nominating them for next year’s G2 Overachievers Grant or Student Grant, which is open for submissions. To learn more or submit a hand- written nomination for yourself or someone you admire, visit G2Overachievers.com.
Overachievers can come from all backgrounds and all ages. With courage, perseverance and the right tools, anyone with a vision can make a positive impact on the world.
